I love the Colt ARs. I truly do. But when you buy a Colt, you're not buying an AR. You're buying the quality control and materials spec that that name is supposed to guarantee. Are they collectible? To some extent. Will they be more so? I don't think they offer anything LMT doesn't. Which is why I'm switching to the MRP rifles. I think there are some better ARs. But Colt makes the standard. I just recently purchased another early Colt LE model.
They do unarguably work well, and they certainly hold their value. When I have a chance again I'll probably want to buy another. As in - leave it in a box??? Iam a colt freak so buy all you can. Shooters coming into the game now couldn't care less about Colt. Quoted: Shooters coming into the game now couldn't care less about Colt. Quoted: Collectible? Knights, maybe, but most people never heard of nvm, let and others. Owning guns you don't shoot is fucking retarted. Unless old, safety reasons, etc.
I haven't shot my SP-1 in thirty years. Newer additions demand my attention. Guess I should get up in the attic and make sure the original box is still up there.
Quoted: I haven't shot my SP-1 in thirty years. Forgot I had listed it months ago and never took the post down. I would say prior to around ish, u really only had a few "good" ar15 manufacturers. Biggest being colt, bushmaster, and armalite. Obviously Colt being the "better" of the ones. So they always brought a premium. Now adays, imo, colt isnt really on the radar. There are just TO many other good companies out there. If the fan boy levels get high enough I'll sell my if I can make a nice profit.
Does nothing better than any of my other ARs. Late model Colts, not so much Meanwhile, with this announcement as well as Democrat presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke promising to confiscate Americans' ARs, we might likely see a run on assault rifles at local gun stores continue. Shoot some, save others. Quoted: Yep. I think the irony is that nobody GAF about Colt when you could buy three of them from the local gun shop. Now that they're concentrating on institutional sales and not making rifles for retail everybody and their dog will want one.
He says "continue". I do know sales have surged a bit, but I don't know if there's a run on them yet. They were making them in the s and have a long history of working with the military to further develop the whole platform.
Now, many companies out there are making old military versions of Colt M16s. You see M16A1s, M16A2s, and a whole host of other variations being produced. And because of that, I think that sometime in the future, these rifles are going to be considered even more special. I have a FREE Guide that shows you how to improve your shooting without leaving your home or spending a dime….
Share this: Tweet. First, a brief bit of background. The AR was designed to use a small-caliber high-velocity round to maximize controllability when firing fully automatic and to be easy to aim across the ranges that infantry combat was generally expected to take place at. Armalite was a small company out of Hollywood, California, and it was made to apply the latest high tech aerospace 3 materials, like forged aluminum and fiberglass, to the firearms industry.
So they sold the design and the rights to it to Colt, who had plenty of arms manufacturing capability. Materials list, dimensions, and crucially, tolerances. Colt has been forced to send this TDP out to other manufacturers for the process of making M4s for the US Military, but those other manufacturers are contractually forbidden from using the TDP to make guns for civilians. This is most important with little things involving tolerances. Which means Colt rifles are going to have a correctly sized gas port, 4 among other things.
What does this mean for you? Well, it means that all the critical fasteners, specifically the castle nut and the screws for the gas key are going to be properly staked. Staking is deforming a little bit of metal to prevent something from backing out. Stake your gas key screws. Which Colt does for you. Which means a Colt rifle is less likely to have out of the box issues. They build their carbines right and inspect every one.
All that said, there are some downsides. The has exactly two differences from an issue M4. Those are the only differences.
