It is essentially gold-plated rune equipment , as equipment bonuses between any gilded armour piece and its normal rune counterpart are identical. Gilded items are mostly bought as status symbols, due to their high prices with no advantage in combat over rune armour.

Gilded armour can be obtained as a rare reward by completing level 3 Treasure Trails for most pieces; gilded boots can only be obtained as a rare reward from level 4 treasure trails. They require level 40 Defence to equip, and the gilded platebody requires the completion of the Dragon Slayer quest to equip. All pieces are statistically equivalent to their rune equipment counterparts.
