What is the difference between fpu and total money makeover

What is the difference between the two? From what I've heard those who've taken FPU loved it and have been really motivated by it. It helps get you and dh on the same page and walks you thru each baby step. If you're looking at being gazelle intense I bet it will get you there. On the other hand, we have no desire to be gazelle intense, and TMM works just fine for us. I have the books from FPU but never actually took the course. It seems to me that FPU walks you through the first steps and gets you motivated and going and has a group effort effect and accountability to it, which is what some people need.

You have 'teachers' and whatnot that will help you set up a budget and a snowball instead of having to figure that out on your own. TMMO is more of a do-it-yourself for the same thing. It tells you how to do it, but it is up to you to motivate yourself to actually get it done and you are only accountable to yourself and your spouse. I ersonally liked TMMO cause it made dh get on board and now we go to a bunch of blogs and boards to get more ideas on how to cut expenses and soon we are even going to start looking into what the quirks are to investing!!

I can't believe the progress we have made. FPU is a 13 week class that comes with another book by DR, a workbook, audio CDs of the videos, and a basic envelope system. The book, Financial Peace Revisited, covers some of the same info as TMM but also covers some additional topics like handling money and relationships and details on real estate. I was a bit skeptical at first because I wondered if we already had all of the information we needed.

But I also didn't think that there was enough info in TMM to make 13 one hour videos! And I was right.
